A free family friendly beach discovery and learning event sponsored by
Whatcom Land Trust &
Cherry Point Aquatic Reserve Citizen Stewardship Committee.
Explore and learn about Whatcom's amazing coastlines (and the intertidal life you share them with)!
Naturalists familiar with intertidal creatures and seaweeds, birds, native plants, forest ecology, and local geology will answer questions and lead informal tours along Point Whitehorn Beach, an extraordinary stretch of natural shoreline teeming with wildlife. Naturalists include: Casey Pruett from the Marine Life Center, Marine specialists Bob Lemon & Alex Alexander, Biologist Michael Kyte, Geologist Dave Tucker, and Forest Ecologist Nick Sky.
-Nick Sky will lead a tour to and from the beach explaining the forest ecosystem and how it relates to the beach at 9:15 AM.
-Beach & tide pool tours beginning at 10:00 AM will teach people about the plants and animals in the intertidal zone
-Geologist Dave Tucker, who will lead a geology tour to investigate beach and bluff geology at 12:00 PM.
Additional informal tours may take place throughout the event as people gather on the beach!
The trail at Point Whitehorn Marine Park meanders through a forested wetland and is wheelchair accessible for ¾ mile, including viewpoints at the top of the bluff overlooking the beach and the Strait of Georgia.

plants, birds, seaweed, intertidal creatures begin at 9am.
At noon, hear Dave Tucker describe how glaciers formed the landscape.
Dogs are not allowed on the beach or the trail.
Please bring water, snacks and sunscreen and pack out what you pack in.
